this is for the queen struggling to transition. for the woman who doesn't see many natural ladies where she lives. for the princess who wants to look like mommy. for the woman who needs inspiration to keep loving her hair. for this is the way we are. the way God made us. embrace it. love it.

I remember when this book first came out. I remember picking it up at Barnes & Nobles, flipping the pages, thinking “This looks interesting.” I didn’t think this book would be selling out and every curly girl in the world would be conforming to the technique this book gives!

I was talking to the lady who did my big chop and she brought it up, suggesting that I try it. I was really skeptical and didn’t want to hop onto another natural hair bandwagon. Around that same time, I just so happened to start watching MohaganyCurls Youtube Channel and she is the queen of the CG Method for African American natural hair community. The more I watched her videos, the more I did research on the method to see what’s so great about it.

This past Sunday I decided to give it a try. It’s very simple, yet out of the box to how I’ve been taking care of my hair. Here are the rules:

  • Clarify your hair with a sulfate shampoo.
  • Stop using combs, brushes, hair dryers, flat irons, etc.
  • Trim ends every 4-6 months.
  • Stop shampooing your hair.
  • Wash your hair with conditioner to cleanse the scalp and detangle hair.
  • Always rinse with cool water.
  • Plop with t-shirts and stop using towels.
  • Give your hair time to adjust - up to 6-8 weeks.

Just this week alone I have seen great results. I’ve cringed at the thought of not using oils, even my sulfate-organic shampoos (I used to get buildup from co-washing), and using more gel. However, my hair has blossomed! I have kept a lot of hair from finger detangling & it stays detangled throughout the week! It’s super soft and defined. I have changed my regimen and I’m so excited, because if this works, I’ll only need 4 products!

Please try it out curly girls! You never know if there’s something that may work better than what you’re doing if you just try! The science behind this method makes you want to give yourself a V8 slap-it’s so simple, easy to understand, and makes sense! It’s designed to give your hair ultimate moisture, lock it in, and let your hair be! Try it - you won’t regret it!
